Close Watch Operations

By Jim Goding

Definition: Close Watch operations are defined as "Surveillance observation of an individual, area, activity or department, that is maintained for an established period of time to determine the existence of cheating, theft, procedural violation or indicators of other dishonest activity." When assigned a Close Watch the investigator is to maintain observation of the subject throughout the assigned period of observation. The subject is to receive the investigator’s complete attention at all times. Only in the event of a serious crime or other life-threatening situation being detected elsewhere in the casino, when his help is needed by the other operators, may the investigator drop the Close Watch to a lesser priority.
